What Makes a Beautiful Smile?

The Art and Science Behind Smile Aesthetics at Dental Studio

A beautiful smile is often one of the first things we notice about someone. It reflects confidence, warmth and personality. But have you ever wondered what actually makes a smile look naturally attractive?

At Dental Studio, we believe creating a beautiful smile is both an art and a science. While every smile is unique, there are a number of key elements our clinicians consider when helping patients enhance their smiles.

Here’s a look behind the scenes at what makes a smile truly stand out.

Tooth Shape and Proportion

Teeth should complement the natural shape of your face and smile.

For example:
• Softer, rounded edges can create a more youthful and natural look
• Slightly longer central teeth can help create balance and symmetry
• The proportions between the front teeth play a key role in creating a harmonious smile

When treatments such as composite bonding are carried out at Dental Studio, these proportions are carefully designed to ensure results look beautifully natural rather than overly uniform.

Tooth Colour

A bright smile doesn’t necessarily mean ultra-white teeth.

In fact, the most attractive smiles usually have a natural shade that complements your complexion and facial features. At Dental Studio, we always aim for results that look refreshed, healthy and authentic.

Professional teeth whitening is one of the most effective ways to enhance a smile while maintaining a natural aesthetic.

The Smile Line

The smile line refers to how the edges of your upper teeth follow the curve of your lower lip when you smile.

When the teeth follow this natural curve, the smile appears:

• More balanced
• More youthful
• More aesthetically pleasing

Even small adjustments to the teeth can significantly improve the harmony of a smile.

Gum Symmetry

Healthy gums frame the teeth and play a surprisingly important role in smile aesthetics.

When gums are:
• Even
• Healthy
• Well balanced

They allow the teeth to appear more symmetrical and attractive.

Regular hygiene appointments at Dental Studio help maintain healthy gums and keep your smile looking its best.

Facial Harmony

One of the most important aspects of smile design is how the teeth work with the whole face.

Our clinicians consider factors such as:
• Lip shape
• Facial proportions
• Smile width
• Natural expressions

The goal is never to create a “standard” smile. Instead, we design a smile that suits your individual features perfectly.

Subtle Enhancements Can Make the Biggest Difference

Many patients are surprised to learn that the most beautiful smile transformations often come from small, carefully planned improvements.

Some of the most popular treatments at Dental Studio include:

  • Composite bonding
  • Invisalign clear aligners to gently straighten teeth
  • EMS GBT Therapy
  • Professional teeth whitening

Invisalign is particularly popular with patients who want to improve the alignment of their teeth in a discreet way. The clear aligners gradually move teeth into a more balanced position, creating a naturally straighter smile without traditional braces.

Often, it’s these subtle refinements that create the most natural and confidence-boosting results.

Your Smile, Your Confidence

At Dental Studio, we believe a beautiful smile should feel authentic and personal. Cosmetic dentistry isn’t about creating identical smiles, it’s about enhancing the natural features that make your smile uniquely yours.

If you’ve ever wondered how your smile could be refreshed or refined, our team would be delighted to guide you through the possibilities.

Sometimes, the smallest changes can make the biggest difference to how you feel when you smile.

Considering Composite Bonding? Common Questions Answered at Dental Studio

Thinking About Composite Bonding?

If you are considering composite bonding, you may have questions about how it works, whether it damages teeth, how long it lasts and if it will look natural.

At Dental Studio, composite bonding is often used to improve the appearance of teeth in a careful and conservative way. It may help improve small chips, worn edges, uneven tooth shapes, small gaps, discolouration and minor cosmetic concerns, depending on the condition of your teeth.

Composite bonding involves placing a tooth-coloured resin material onto the tooth surface, which is then carefully shaped and polished to improve the appearance of the smile. In many cases, little or no drilling is required, although every smile is different and suitability must be assessed first.

Before recommending treatment, we assess your teeth, gums, bite and smile as a whole to determine whether composite bonding is likely to be suitable or whether another option, such as Invisalign®, teeth whitening or veneers, may be more appropriate.

Below are some of the most common questions patients ask about composite bonding.

Will Composite Bonding Damage My Teeth?

Composite bonding is often considered a minimally invasive cosmetic dental treatment.

In many cases, the material is added directly onto the existing tooth surface without significant drilling. Some patients may require very light smoothing or preparation beforehand, depending on the tooth shape and desired outcome. If this is needed, your dentist will explain why before treatment begins.

At Dental Studio, we take a conservative approach, aiming to preserve as much healthy natural tooth structure as possible.

Will Composite Bonding Look Natural?

When carefully planned and carried out, composite bonding can look very natural.

The shade, shape, texture and polish all influence the final appearance. At Dental Studio, we carefully assess how bonded teeth will sit alongside your natural smile, considering tooth proportions, smile line, symmetry and bite.

In some cases, teeth whitening may be discussed before bonding, as the bonding material is matched to the shade of your teeth at the time of treatment. Whitening afterwards may result in the natural teeth becoming lighter while bonded areas remain unchanged.

Does Composite Bonding Hurt?

Composite bonding is usually comfortable for many patients.

If no drilling is required, local anaesthetic may not be necessary. Some people may experience mild sensitivity afterwards, particularly if the teeth were already sensitive before treatment.

If any preparation is needed, your dentist will explain what to expect and whether anaesthetic may help make the appointment more comfortable.

If you feel nervous about treatment, please let us know. We are always happy to talk through each step beforehand.

How Long Does Composite Bonding Last?

Composite bonding can last several years, although it is not considered a permanent treatment.

Its longevity depends on factors such as:

  • Your bite and tooth position
  • Oral hygiene habits
  • Diet and lifestyle
  • Teeth grinding or clenching
  • General wear over time

Bonding may wear or chip more quickly if you grind your teeth, bite nails, chew pens or frequently eat very hard foods.

At Dental Studio, we provide realistic advice about what you can expect based on your own teeth and bite. Composite bonding is often best viewed as a treatment that may need maintenance, polishing or occasional repair over time.

Can Composite Bonding Stain?

Yes, composite bonding can stain over time.

Unlike natural enamel, the material does not respond to whitening treatment in the same way. This is one reason why we often discuss professional teeth whitening before bonding, particularly for patients considering a brighter smile.

Tea, coffee, red wine, smoking and strongly coloured foods may contribute to staining over time.

Regular hygiene visits, good home care and occasional polishing can help maintain the appearance.

Can Composite Bonding Chip?

Composite bonding can chip or wear, especially when placed on the biting edges of front teeth.

Small chips can often be repaired, depending on the situation. If repeated chipping occurs, we may review your bite or discuss contributing habits such as grinding or clenching.

For some patients, a night guard may be recommended to help protect the bonding.

Can Composite Bonding Close Gaps?

Composite bonding may help close small gaps between teeth in suitable cases.

However, larger spaces may not always achieve the most balanced appearance with bonding alone, as adding too much material can sometimes make teeth look overly wide.

In these situations, Invisalign clear aligners or another orthodontic option may be discussed before bonding to create a more natural-looking result.

Can Composite Bonding Fix Crooked Teeth?

Composite bonding can sometimes improve the appearance of slightly uneven or misshapen teeth, but it does not physically move teeth.

If teeth are crowded, rotated or the bite needs correcting, Invisalign treatment may be more suitable before bonding.

Trying to mask significant crowding with bonding alone may create a bulky or less natural appearance, which is why careful planning is important.

Is Composite Bonding Better Than Veneers?

Composite bonding and veneers are different treatments, and one is not automatically better than the other.

Composite bonding is often:

  • More conservative
  • Less invasive
  • Easier to repair
  • Suitable for smaller cosmetic improvements

Veneers may sometimes be considered where more significant changes to colour, shape or surface are needed.

At Dental Studio, we take time to explain the benefits, limitations, maintenance and suitability of each option so you can make an informed decision.

Should I Whiten My Teeth Before Composite Bonding?

Not always, but whitening is commonly discussed beforehand.

Composite bonding is matched to your tooth shade at the time it is placed. If whitening is carried out afterwards, your natural teeth may lighten while the bonded areas stay the same colour.

For many smile makeover cases, the typical sequence is:

Teeth whitening → shade stabilisation → composite bonding

Your dentist will advise what may be suitable for your smile.

How Do I Look After Composite Bonding?

Looking after composite bonding is similar to caring for natural teeth.

We recommend:

  • Brushing twice daily
  • Cleaning between the teeth every day
  • Attending regular dental check-ups
  • Visiting the hygienist regularly
  • Avoiding biting hard objects such as pens, ice or fingernails

Some patients may benefit from a night guard if grinding is a concern.

Occasional polishing appointments may also help maintain shine and smoothness.

Are There Any Risks?

Like all dental treatments, composite bonding has possible risks and limitations.

These may include:

  • Staining over time
  • Chipping or wear
  • Surface roughness
  • Sensitivity
  • Bite changes
  • The need for repair or replacement in the future

The appearance of bonding may also change as your natural teeth age or alter in shade.

Before treatment, we will explain the likely risks, maintenance and alternatives so you can make an informed choice.

Is Composite Bonding Right for Me?

Composite bonding may be suitable for patients wanting to improve:

  • Small chips
  • Worn edges
  • Minor gaps
  • Tooth shape or symmetry
  • Small cosmetic imperfections

However, it may not be suitable if there is:

  • Active tooth decay
  • Gum disease
  • Heavy grinding or clenching
  • Poor oral hygiene
  • Significant tooth movement required

These issues may need addressing first before cosmetic treatment is considered.

Thinking about transforming your smile?

If you are considering composite bonding, you can book a consultation with Dr Neresh Behari at Dental Studio in Waterlooville or Chichester. Dr Behari has undertaken extensive training in cosmetic and restorative dentistry, including composite bonding techniques, and takes a careful, personalised approach to smile planning. Invisalign® Cost, Treatment Time & Does It Hurt?

If you are considering Invisalign treatment, you are certainly not alone. More adults and teenagers than ever are choosing clear aligners to achieve a straighter, more confident smile without traditional metal braces.

At Dental Studio, some of the most common questions we hear include:

  • How much does Invisalign cost?
  • Does Invisalign hurt?
  • How long does Invisalign treatment take?

In this guide, we answer these frequently asked questions to help you decide whether Invisalign is the right option for you.

How Much Does Invisalign Cost?

One of the first things patients ask about is the cost of treatment.

The price of Invisalign can vary depending on the complexity of your case, the number of aligners required, and the expected treatment duration. Typically, Invisalign treatment ranges from approximately £2,700 to £4,000.

Your Invisalign journey at Dental Studio begins with a comprehensive consultation where we assess:

  • Teeth crowding
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Bite alignment
  • Overall smile goals

Following your assessment, we create a personalised treatment plan along with a clear breakdown of costs, ensuring complete transparency from the outset.

What Can Affect Invisalign Pricing?

Several factors can influence the overall investment, including:

  • Minor or complex tooth movement
  • Length of treatment
  • Number of aligners required
  • Additional cosmetic or restorative treatments
  • Retainers following treatment

Many patients are pleasantly surprised to find that flexible finance options can make treatment more manageable.

Does Invisalign Hurt?

This is one of the most common concerns for new patients.

The good news is that Invisalign is generally considered significantly more comfortable than traditional braces. The aligners are custom-made from smooth, clear plastic, meaning there are no metal brackets or wires to cause irritation.

Some patients may experience:

  • Mild pressure
  • Tightness when changing aligners
  • Slight tenderness during the first few days

These sensations are completely normal and are simply a sign that your aligners are gently moving your teeth into their new positions.

How Long Does Invisalign Discomfort Last?

Most patients find that any discomfort settles within a few days of starting a new aligner.

Helpful tips include:

  • Changing aligners before bedtime
  • Staying hydrated
  • Using orthodontic chewies if recommended
  • Taking mild pain relief if required

Most people adapt very quickly and comfortably incorporate Invisalign into daily life.

How Long Does Invisalign Treatment Take?

Treatment time varies depending on your individual smile goals and the amount of tooth movement required.

Typical treatment times are:

  • Minor cosmetic corrections: 3–6 months
  • Moderate cases: 6–12 months
  • More complex cases: 12–18 months

At Dental Studio, we use advanced digital scanning technology and Invisalign smile simulation software to provide a clearer estimate during your consultation.

What Can Affect Treatment Time?

Several factors can influence how quickly Invisalign works:

  • Complexity of tooth movement
  • Wearing aligners consistently
  • Following clinical guidance
  • Attending regular review appointments

For optimal results, aligners should be worn for 20–22 hours per day.

Why More Adults Are Choosing Invisalign

Invisalign continues to grow in popularity because it offers:

  • Nearly invisible aligners
  • Removable trays for eating and drinking
  • Easier brushing and flossing
  • Fewer emergency appointments
  • Greater confidence during treatment

Many adults appreciate being able to straighten their teeth discreetly while maintaining professional and social confidence.

5 Modern Dental Treatments That Can Transform Your Smile

Discover what’s possible at Dental Studio

Many people think visiting the dentist is simply about routine check-ups or fixing problems when they arise. In reality, modern dentistry offers far more than that. Today’s dental treatments can improve not only your oral health but also the appearance of your smile, your confidence, and your overall wellbeing.

At Dental Studio, we provide advanced private dental care focused on both oral health and smile transformation. Our practice is led by Dr Usha Ramjas and Dr Neresh Behari, supported by a highly skilled team dedicated to delivering exceptional patient care.

Working together as a holistic, patient-focused team, we ensure every patient receives a personalised treatment plan designed to achieve the best possible results for their smile and long-term dental health.

If you’ve ever wondered what modern dentistry can do for your smile, here are some of the treatments that are helping patients transform their confidence.

Invisalign® – The World’s Most Advanced Clear Teeth Straightening System

Crooked, crowded, or misaligned teeth can affect both the appearance of your smile and your oral health. Invisalign has revolutionised orthodontics by offering a discreet, comfortable way to straighten teeth without traditional braces.

Using a series of custom-made clear aligners, Invisalign gradually moves teeth into their ideal position.

At Dental Studio, Invisalign treatment is led by Dr Usha Ramjas, one of the Top 150 Invisalign providers worldwide. Her extensive experience means patients benefit from advanced treatment planning and highly predictable results.

Patients choose Invisalign because it is:

  • Virtually invisible
  • Comfortable to wear
  • Removable for eating and cleaning
  • Suitable for many orthodontic concerns

With expert guidance and planning, Invisalign can create beautifully aligned smiles with minimal disruption to daily life.

Professional Teeth Whitening with Boutique Whitening®

Over time, teeth naturally become darker due to lifestyle factors such as coffee, tea, red wine, and general ageing.

At Dental Studio we offer Boutique Whitening, a professional teeth whitening system designed to deliver safe, effective and long-lasting results.

Boutique Whitening is popular because it:

  • Provides natural-looking whitening results
  • Is safe and clinician-supervised
  • Can significantly brighten your smile
  • Helps restore confidence in your appearance

A brighter smile can make a remarkable difference, helping patients feel more confident both socially and professionally.

Composite Bonding – Enhance Your Smile Naturally

For patients looking to improve small imperfections, composite bonding can make a noticeable difference with minimal treatment.

Using a carefully sculpted tooth-coloured material, composite bonding can correct:

  • Small chips or cracks
  • Uneven edges
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Slightly irregular tooth shapes

The treatment is minimally invasive and often completed in a single appointment, making it a popular option for patients seeking natural smile enhancement.

Dental Implants – The Gold Standard for Replacing Missing Teeth

Missing teeth can affect both your smile and your ability to eat comfortably. Dental implants provide a long-term solution that closely mimics natural teeth in both appearance and function.

Dental implants can help:

  • Restore a complete smile
  • Improve chewing and speaking
  • Support long-term oral health
  • Maintain jawbone strength

With careful planning and expert care, implants offer a stable, durable and natural-looking replacement for missing teeth.

Smile Makeovers – A Personalised Approach to Your Smile

Sometimes patients wish to address multiple concerns at once. A smile makeover combines several treatments to create a balanced, natural-looking result.

Depending on your goals, a smile makeover may include:

  • Invisalign teeth straightening
  • Boutique Whitening
  • Composite bonding
  • Veneers or restorative treatments

At Dental Studio, every smile makeover is carefully planned to ensure results that enhance your natural features and complement your overall appearance.

The Foundation of Every Beautiful Smile: Oral Health

While cosmetic dentistry can transform a smile, healthy teeth and gums are always the foundation of long-lasting results.

That’s why our team places strong emphasis on preventative dentistry, including:

  • Regular dental examinations
  • Professional hygiene appointments

Investing in Our Team. Strengthening Skills, Connections, and Care

At Dental Studio, we believe that exceptional patient care begins with a strong, inspired, and well-connected team. While clinical knowledge and ongoing professional development remain at the heart of what we do, the way we grow together as people is just as important.

Recently, our team had the wonderful opportunity to attend the Happiness Effect Workshop Tour, an event focused on wellbeing, communication, teamwork, and creating positive environments in the workplace. It was an uplifting and energising experience that reminded us how powerful a supportive team culture can be, not only for us but also for every patient who walks through our doors.

Events like this go far beyond traditional training. They help us strengthen our relationships with one another, build trust, and reinforce the shared values that shape the Dental Studio experience. A connected team communicates better, collaborates more effectively, and creates a calmer, more welcoming atmosphere for our patients.

This workshop was also especially meaningful as we continue to welcome new members into the Dental Studio family. Introducing new team members through shared learning experiences helps them feel supported from the very beginning, while allowing everyone to align with our work ethic, values, and commitment to excellence. We are passionate about creating an environment where every individual feels encouraged to grow, contribute, and inspire others.

For us, professional development isn’t only about clinical improvement, although that remains essential. It’s also about nurturing positivity, resilience, empathy, and teamwork. These qualities directly influence the way we care for our patients, ensuring that every visit is not only clinically outstanding but also comfortable, reassuring, and genuinely caring.

By investing in team training, wellbeing workshops, and shared experiences, we continue to strengthen the foundation that allows us to deliver the highest standard of service to you. When our team feels supported, inspired, and connected, that energy naturally flows into the care we provide every single day.

We’re proud of our growing team, grateful for the opportunity to learn together, and excited to keep evolving, always with our patients at the heart of everything we do.

A Festive Message From the Dental Studio Team

This time of year is always wonderfully busy for everyone, and we are no exception. As the festive season approaches, we want to take a moment to wish each and every one of you the very best for the holidays and the year ahead.

At Dental Studio, we are incredibly proud of our team, not only for the individual achievements and successes we’ve celebrated this year, but also for the way we have supported one another through more challenging moments. Through the highs and the lows, we continue to stand side by side like a family.

As we look toward 2026, we are excited to reset, refocus, and build on everything we have achieved so far. We have many wonderful plans in motion for the new year, and we look forward to sharing them with you as they unfold.

On behalf of Dr. Usha Ramjas, Dr. Neresh Behari, and the entire Dental Studio team, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks for your continued support and for being such an important part of our journey. We look forward to welcoming many of you back in the new year and meeting those we’ve not yet had the pleasure of caring for.

As always, we kindly ask you to continue spreading the word to your friends and family. Your recommendations truly mean the world to us and remain one of the greatest compliments we can receive.

Wishing you a joyful festive season and a wonderful New Year,

The Dental Studio Team

A Night to Remember at the Private Dentistry Awards 2025

On Friday, our team had the pleasure of attending the prestigious Private Dentistry Awards in Mayfair, London, alongside our wonderful principal dentists’ Usha, Neresh and several members of the Dental Studio team. It was an inspiring evening celebrating excellence, dedication, and passion within the dental profession.

While we did not take home the award for our category this year, we truly couldn’t be prouder. The standard of finalists was exceptional, and being shortlisted among so many outstanding practices and professionals was an achievement in itself. We were in great company, and to us, Usha is a winner every single day for the commitment, leadership, and care she brings to our practice and our patients.

This experience has motivated us even more. Next year, we’re aiming higher and planning to work more with the team to enter multiple categories, showcasing the talents, growth, and dedication of everyone. Although awards are wonderful and fun, what matters most, however, is what we strive for every day:

  • Continuous clinical excellence
  • Ongoing training and professional development
  • Personal growth
  • A supportive and inspiring team environment
  • Delivering the very best care for our patients

For us, it’s not all about winning, it’s about challenging ourselves, improving, and always aiming for more on behalf of our patients.

Most importantly, we had an absolutely fantastic evening celebrating together, not only our own team achievements but those of colleagues across the profession. We left feeling proud, inspired, and excited for everything still to come. There was a lot of dancing!

Here’s to another year of learning, growing, and delivering outstanding care!
